A Dalit woman working in a brick kiln at Kirra village here was allegedly set ablaze by her employer when she resisted his attempt to rape her and is now battling for life.
The brick kiln owner, Aas Mohammad, along with another man allegedly sprinkled kerosene oil on the woman and set her on fire after she resisted their attempt to rape her on Wednesday evening, police said.
The woman suffered 95 per cent burns and has been admitted to a hospital in Meerut.
A Sub Inspector, who was sent to record the woman's statement, allegedly reported that the victim had sustained burns while working at the kiln.
However, when SSP Umesh Kumar Singh was told by the tehsildar that the woman had been set ablaze by Mohammad, he placed SI Chote Singh under suspension.
