Woman techie's murder in Mumbai: 2 witnesses identify accused

Two key witnesses today identified in the sessions court the accused in the case related to the rape and murder of a woman software engineer from Andra Pradesh here last January.
"Ramesh Rathod, a taxi driver, and Ganesh Shetty, an employee at pay-and-park facility, today identified the accused Chandraban Sanap," said Sanap's lawyer advocate Prakash Salsingikar.
Crime Branch arrested Sanap nearly two months after the murder of the 23-year-old techie, employed with TCS.
The victim had gone missing from the Lokmanya Tilak terminus in suburban Kurla after arrival from Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh, her native town.
Rathod told the court that when he saw Sanap coming out of the station he asked him if wanted to hire a taxi while Shetty said the accused had parked his motorcycle in the parking area. When Shetty demanded parking charge, Sanap threatened him, saying he was a policeman.
According to the police, Sanap spotted the victim alone at the station and offered to drop her in suburban Andheri where she lived. However, at some isolated spot he stranlged her when she resisted his attempt to rob her.
Police later claimed they suspected the victim was raped too. Her decomposed body was found off the Eastern Express Highway in suburban Bhandup.
