Confirming the arrest, Patna Rail Superintendent of Police (SP) P N Mishra said, "The arrested woman has been identified as one Pratima Kumari. She is a resident of a posh locality in Patna. She was nabbed from A-2 compartment of the Rajdhani Express when co-passenger, Guddi Rai, raised an alarm after discovering that her bag was missing."
Mishra said the woman used to travel on reserved berths and steal belongings of other co-passengers in the train while they slept during the overnight journey.
"Rai raised an alarm and rushed towards the toilet and found that one of them was bolted from inside. She waited there and found Kumari coming out with the missing bag in her hands. After quickly going through her belongings, Rai discovered that her Rs 27,000 cash and ornaments kept in it were missing," Mishra said.
The Rail SP added that Rai demanded her money and ornaments back, which Kumari returned after realising that she was surrounded by other passengers. She was handed over to the GRP soon after the train reached Patna Junction.
He also asked the passengers to always remain cautious about their luggage and valuables, as it seemed the thieves were resorting to a different modus operandi in important trains.
