The woman Sangeeta Jain has been arrested on charges of attempt to murder after her husband Sandeep Jain showed the shocking video, recorded by a CCTV camera, to the police.
The video, which went viral on social media, was captured on January 5 showing Sangeeta first raining blows on the elderly woman Raj Rani Jain and then trying to strangle her with a cloth.
Sangeeta had some differences with her husband Sandeep Jain and mother-in-law and their divorce case is pending in a local court, according to police.
Sandeep was sent to police custody for a day on January 4 on charges of dowry harassment.

Sandeep had a suspicion that Sangeeta used to torture his parents in his absence and had installed a CCTV camera in his mother's room to keep an eye on his wife.
He alleged his wife used to hit his mother with bricks and shower abuses on her quite frequently.
"I complained about her (wife) but no one used to listen to me. After waiting for two years, I installed a CCTV camera hoping it will act as a deterrent to my wife's methods and that she will mend her ways. That day she crossed all limits. I installed the camera to unmask her since the law is on the woman's side when these types of cases are concerned," said Sandeep.
Sandeep yesterday reported the matter to the SP (rural), following which Sangeeta was arrested.
Debjit Chowdhry, ADG (Law and Order) said "we will take legal action against her. Already an FIR has been registered and our police officers have visited the site. We are looking at the CCTV footage and further legal action will be taken".
Sangeeta, for her part, alleged her father-in-law attempted to rape her, the mother-in-law gave her electric shocks and the sister-in-laws poured boiling water.
Sangeeta charged her mother-in-law would often taunt her that she did not bring dowry and would defame her with a "fake" video.
