A 28-year-old woman thwarted an armed robbery attempt at her jewellery shop and got one of the assailants arrested with the help of neighbours and a policeman in Bindapur area of South West Delhi.
According to police, Anu and her husband Rajesh run a jewellery shop on the ground floor and live on the first floor of their Manas Kunj flat in the area.
"Last night, when Rajesh was about to close the shop around 10.30 pm, three bike-borne armed assailants barged into the shop. While one of them trained a pistol on Rajesh, the other two started robbing the shop," a police officer said.
Finding something amiss, Anu came to the ground floor and peeped into the shop only to discover Rajesh was being held hostage at gun point.
She immediately raised an alarm after which her neighbours gathered at the spot. Fearing to be caught by the public, the assailants tried to flee from the spot.
Hearing the noise, a patrolling Delhi Police constable, identified as Shishpal, rushed to the spot and with the help of neighbours nabbed one of the assailants.
