According to an official press statement issued here today by the police, one week ago, a middle-aged woman approached the Navrangpura police station and asked officials to lodge a complaint against a 69-year-old industrialist for raping her 15 years ago, adding that the industrialist is the father of her teenage daughter.
The police started investigations before filing an FIR, since the case involved a reputed Indian businessman.
According to the police, the woman had sent similar petitions to different heads of police earlier, demanding action against the industrialist for allegedly raping her.
In one of her petitions, she claimed that the industrialist had called her on her mobile phone when he was on a visit to Mumbai and called her to the Great Maratha Hotel, where both of them had sexual intercourse.

According to the police, she gave two different dates in her two seperate petitions, which made them suspicious. In one petition, she mentioned April 1999, while in another petition, it was May 2000.
"So there is no question of calls going from that number to her during the period she mentioned," the police statement said.
