Woman tries to sell off 4-month-old son, arrested

A case of human trafficking has come to light here when a woman allegedly tried to sell off her four-month-old son for Rs 70,000, police said today.
Four persons including the woman, her sister and the buyer along with her husband were arrested under charges of human trafficking when the deal was being made at Dehradun railway station yesterday, they said.
Sunita, hailing from Kaimri village in Doiwala area here, had come with her child to the railway station where her sister Anita Singh, who works as a traffic home guard, was waiting for her along with another woman Anita Mishra, they said.
Sunita handed over her four-month-old son to Mishra who paid her Rs 70,000 in return.When police personnel deployed in the area got suspicious and interrogated the women, the trio were arrested immediately, they said.
Besides them, Anita Mishra's husband who runs an NGO in Agra has also been arrested, they said adding preliminary interrogation of the arrested persons has revealed that the child was being taken to Vinod Shukla, a resident of Agra.
The woman who tried to sell off her child to another woman has two more children.
She told police that due to poverty she was not being able to raise her children properly and decided to sell off her child.
