Woman who killed daughter to marry again gets life term

A local court today sentenced a young woman to life imprisonment for killing her toddler daughter so that she could get married to her paramour in 2012.
Additional Sessions Judge Y C Joshi of Ahmedabad Rural Court also imposed a fine of Rs 250 on the convict, Somabali Zadua, a labourer who had worked in Sanand town near here.
The court observed there is a need to set an example in society by giving a stern punishment for a such heinous act in which a mother killed her own daughter just to get married with her paramour.
As per the charge sheet, Somabali shifted to Sanand in 2012 and started working at a construction site.

The 23-year-old, who had separated from her husband, came in contact with a co-labourer, Lalnu Momin with whom she developed a relationship. The duo later decided to get married.
However, Somabali felt her 18-month-old daughter might become a hurdle in her new relationship and planned to get rid of her. Somabali strangled the girl and dumped her body near a construction site.
The woman was arrested after a brief investigation and she subsequently confessed to the crime, the prosecution said.
