On the lines of Gulabi gang of Uttar Pradesh, which fights against social evils and attrocities against women, several women today protested against opening of a new liquor store in Bhonsala village here in Haryana.
"Many women assembled in front of the recently opened liquor store on Kahsun road in village Bhonsala and demanded its immediate closure," Police Inspector Santosh Kumari said.
The protesting women even broke the locked gates of the shop and destroyed several bottles of beer and liquor stored inside the store.
They also raised slogans against the district administration for allowing the liquor shop to be opened inside the village boundary and gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the administration for shifting the liquor store to some other place, failing which they will continue their protests, she said.
After getting information about the incident, the lady police officer rushed to the spot with a team and took the situation in control.
The women were angry as the liquor shop is close to a temple, said the police officer, adding the protesting women also alleged that they face stalking and harassment by drunkards on the roads.
