Kyntimon Marwein, 20, and her sister Dateibankynmaw, 18, bagged the first and the third prize in the women's category of the gruelling Shillong half marathon.

Their youngest sister, Bandasharai Marwein, 16, took home the first prize of the Chief Minister's 'Youth for Green' run.

The trio hail from Mawlangwir village, about half an hour walk, from the district headquarters of the newly created South West Khasi Hills district.

Born to a poor family of nine siblings, the trio has won several other titles all throughout the year in the state but their feat is yet to be recognised till date.

What set them apart from the rest of the runners was the fact that they have no professional trainers and lack basic support from the local government. (MORE)
