In Manipur, there is a market, where 5000-6000 women work every day to support their families, she said after inaugurating the 'Emerging North East 2018' Expo at Shilpgram here.
The daylong expo, organised by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), gave farmers, agri-preneurs, entrepreneurs and experts from the food industry from across the Northeast a platform to interact and generate business in the region.
"I am happy to see that women are participating in large numbers in today's event. We do get to see that women are being neglected (in certain parts of the country), but in the Northeast, the case is very different. Women here are financially independent."
"Barring Assam, there are hardly any industries in the region. The focus should be on bringing about industrialization in other states too. That can be made possible once the communication between these states is improved."
