To boost young talent in the women cricket space, women's IPL tournament should be organised, Indian women's cricket team's former captain Sandhya Agrawal said here today.
"Like men's IPL, women's IPL should also be organised and it will also gain instant popularity. Even the government can organise it to promote women's cricket," Sandhya, told reporters while inaugurating the Jadevraj Pawar Sub Junior Badminton tournament today.
Expressing concern over the condition of women's cricket in Madhya Pradesh, Sandhya who hails from Indore, said that a women's cricket academy is a must in the state for the promotion of the game.
She said that the state's Chief Minister is a sports lover and quite sensitive towards women.
"Every district in Madhya Pradesh should have a women cricket academy and if that happens then the women cricketers would have a bright future in Madhya Pradesh," she said.
Replying to a query, the former cricketer said said women cricketers, especially in tribal belt of Dhar, Jhabua, Barwani, Alirajpur, Khandwa and Khargone have lot of potential.
"But in absence of any motivation they leave the game midway. For nurturing such talent, you need cricket academies," she said.
Sandhya also said that technique of cricket has changed a lot now but enthusiasm level is more or less the same now, as it was during her time.
