A women's security programme aimed at providing self-defence training to them as part of the 'Janamaitri Suraksha' project of state police was launched here today by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the aim was to equip women to face any type of attack without the help of police by training them in self-defence tactics.
"The Sthree Suraksha (women's security) programme will be implemented across the state," he said.
A well-trained resource team, comprising 10 women police officers in each district, would train women as part of the programme, he said.
Training will be imparted with the active participation of educational institutions, non-governmental organisations, residents association and women self-help group Kudumbashree.
Health Minister V S Sivakumar, state DGP T P Senkumar and other senior police officers were among those present.
