According to a survey, British women devote 91 hours a year, which amounts to 43 weeks in a lifetime to applying make-up.

The survey conducted by a UK based skincare company found that the average British woman devotes 91 hours a year to applying their make-up, the 'Daily Mail' reported.

A poll of 1,020 women in UK found that almost a third of women admitted they would like to cut the time they spend applying make-up, but only 13 per cent had the confidence to go barefaced.

Nine per cent of women said there is nothing that would make them go make-up free with one per cent even admitting to applying make-up before going to the gym.

Many are now also perfecting their looks online, with 8 per cent of women admitting to spending at least 30 minutes a week altering images of themselves on Facebook.

41 per cent felt unable to tell their friends that their natural look was better as they feared it would upset them.

"British women are spending an incredible amount of time each week applying their make-up despite being told by friends they are attractive enough to go bare faced," Leah Doherty, from the company, was quoted as saying by the paper.

"It seems modern women are not happy with the way they look even when wearing make-up, as our study reveals many are now even editing photographs of themselves before putting them on Facebook," she added.

While four in ten women felt radiant looking skin would give them more confidence, 12 per cent agreed they would consider turning to plastic surgery in a bid to look better. Four in ten said weight loss was the key to looking good.
