Allen saw Cyrus play the titular character in the musical TV series because his kids were fans of the show and he was impressed by her comic timing, reported Digital Spy.
"When I was younger and my kids were growing up, I would go through the channels and I would see her for a second. I stopped and I noticed, 'Who is this kid? She's got a great delivery!' She was knocking off those one-liners like she was a very gifted comic performer, and then I forgot about her and moved on," Allen, 80, said.
"I thought to myself, 'She is perfect for this part. Why don't I cast her?' And she turned out to be a wonderful actress who is terrific with the gag lines. She is great with them and she's a lovely person. I had a wonderful, wonderful time working with her.
