The Goa government today said that the task of calculating total number of liquor outlets near the highways (both state and national) would be completed tomorrow.
More than 3,000 units in the state are likely to be impacted due to the recent Supreme court order banning liquor outlets within 500 metres of the State and National Highways.
The Goa excise department has started survey to identify the number of Bars and Restaurants and wholesale vendors which will be covered under the Apex Court's verdict.
"The survey is almost complete. There are around 3,124 outlets, which are existing within 500 metres of the highways. The final data will be available tomorrow," State Excise Commissioner Menino D'Souza told PTI.
He said the data giving details of the outlets in each taluka would be compiled so that the showcause notices can be issued to them.
The State government, meanwhile has refused to file a review petition in the Supreme Court stating that they will provide all the required support to the liquor vendors if they move court.
The Excise department has said that they will not be renewing licences of the liquor vendors after March 31, 2017 if their outlets are within 500 metres of the highways.
