Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today said work on the Rs 10,000-crore Ahmedabad- Gandhinagar Metro rail project, which is awaiting approval from the Centre, will begin soon.
Patel was speaking at inauguration of the ninth edition of the Mega Industrial Exhibition of Vadodara Chamber of Commerce and Industries (VCCI) at Navlakhi compound here.
The Chief Minister said the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro project is on track and is being promoted with the objective of providing safe, fast and eco-friendly transportation services to the public at affordable rates while simultaneously reducing congestion on roads.
The project aims to be a model project not only for Gujarat, but also for the entire nation, Anandiben said.
The metro project holds the advantage of a responsive state government and progressive leadership; relatively flat terrain, use of state of the art technology, minimum land acquisition and majority elevated track, she added.
On February 4, 2010, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) namely Metro-Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) Company Ltd was incorporated by the state government to implement the Metro Rail Project under Companies Act, 1956.
