"Tender for soil investigation of wheel plant has been finalised and work awarded. Construction of the boundary wall is almost completed," a source in the company told PTI.
RINL had in October signed an assured off-take agreement with the Railways. The factory will be set up with an investment of Rs 1,100 crore on 40 acres of land near the existing rail coach factory.
"As regards main package, techno commercial issues are being sorted out for award of the work," he said.
The forged wheel plant at Lalganj, Rae bareli, will produce 1 lakh wheels per annum in first phase for locos and high speed trains. The capacity of the plant will be doubled in the Second phase for a production of over 2 lakh wheels per annum.
The factory will meet the growing demand of forged wheel and thus reduce India's dependents on imports. RINL will supply about 50,000-60,000 tonne steel a year for the wheel plant from its steel-making facility at Vizag.
