The project was formulated by Rangasamy during his tenure as Chief Minister in the then Congress ministry (2006-2008).He had laid the foundation of the project in July 2007 but work came to a standstill after a new Congress government under the leadership of V Vaithilingam came into being in 2008.
The two storied structure would have a library with a seating capacity for 150 persons, classrooms for students preparing for the all India service examination, an auditorium to accommodate 250 persons. It would also house the office of the Centralised Admission Committee responsible for selecting students under government quota to various professional colleges in the Union Territory, official sources in PWD said.
The Chief Minister later laid the foundation of Rs 35 crore road to link the upcoming railway overbridge on 100 feet road at Mudaliarpet near here.
He also kickstarted work for laying underground drainage between Karuvadikuppam and the town limits.
