'Work with honesty', says former EC on Civil Services Day

Terming "neutrality" as "non negotiable" in the lives of civil servants, former Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi today advised the officials to work with honesty and not take "wrongful" decisions under the influence of politicians.
He spoke at the state level program on the occasion of 'the Civil Services Day' here today at Haryana Institute of Public Administration (HIPA) Gurgaon.
Addressing the civil servants of all the six districts of Gurgaon Division, Quraishi said, "neutrality is non- negotiable and a majority of the civil servants want to work honestly."
He said the public sector employees that one wrongful decision on a politician's saying may provide a good posting or other benefit. They can get manipulated by others too if they succumbs to politician's pressure.
Asking them to serve with honesty, the former EC said that every government needs hard working officers, so don't resort to shortcuts.
Explaining about the election process in India, he said, "We are the largest democracy of the world and the elections are held in a fair and peaceful way throughout the country. It is the civil servants who manage these elections. They are keeping the democracy alive.
