The deceased worker, Ayyanar, was on the terrace along with the school's section superintendentand two other workers when it caved in under the impact of the demolition being carried out with the help of an earth-mover, they said.
Police said the four persons trapped in the debris were rescued and rushed to the government general hospital in the town.
Ayyanar succumbed to injuries in the hospital, police said.
The others have been admitted to the intensive care unit, they added.
