According to Variety, Taipei City Construction Management Office said the accident took place at the Chinese Culture and Movie Center. The worker was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Two other people are injured in the accident.
"Today there was an unfortunate accident at CMPC Studios in Taiwan, where the Martin Scorsese film, 'Silence', is in pre-production," read a statement from the film's spokesperson to Deadline.
"An existing structure on the CMPC backlot had been deemed unsafe by the production, and accordingly a 3rd-party contractor was hired to reinforce and make it safe prior to any production-related work commencing in this building.
'Silence' is a movie about 17th century Jesuit priests who are facing violence and prosecutions when travelling to Japan to spread the gospel of Christianity and locate their mentor.
It stars Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver and Liam Neeson among others, and is set for release in the US on November 1.
