Worker's body traced three days after mishap in Sesa Goa mine

The body of a worker, who had got trapped under a pit at an iron ore mine operated by a Vedanta Group firm, was found today, three days after the incident, the company said.
Manoj Naik, who was working on a ripper, had got buried under the iron ore dump along with the machine on December 2 at Sesa Goa Iron Ore's Codli mine in South Goa.
A rescue operation was launched immediately.
"This is to inform that the rescue team recovered the body of our worker, Manoj Naik, around 6.15 pm today. Manoj was trapped in a slope failure in our Codli mine on December 2," a company spokesman said in a statement here.

"The Vedanta team worked round-the-clock in the rescue efforts with the support of the local and state administrative authorities, the Navy and the National Disaster Management (to trace the worker).
"After the post-mortem tomorrow the body will be handed over to his family," the spokesman said.
"All of us at Vedanta are deeply grieved and will provide all the possible support to the family," he said.
