World Environment Day: Rajkhowa urges people to plant more

Arunachal Pradesh today celebrated World Environment Day through various programme throughout the state with Governor J P Rajkhowa planting saplings in the Raj Bhawan complex.
Calling the people of the state to plant more trees, the Governor said with the total population of around 16 lakh in the state, if each family planted a tree, there would be increase of three to four lakh plants in year, an official release said.
"It is a great day for all as people are taking care to upgrade the environment, which is degrading very fast due to global warming, uncontrolled felling of trees and all kinds of activities," the Governor said.
Rajkhowa advised the people to plant trees in their compounds and public places and called upon NGOs to come forward and plant more trees.
Conveying his good wishes to the people of the state on the occasion, the Governor wished the day herald a better future and better environment for all, the release added.
