World Forum of Fisher People's panel to meet in Puducherry

The Coordination Committee of the World Forum of Fisher People (WFFP) comprising delegates from across the globe will hold a meeting next month here, the first in the country in 18 years, a member said today.
The six-day meeting would be held from July 14 at Pudukuppam coastal village near here, Chairman of the National Fish Workers Forum (NFF) M Ilango said.
This was the first meeting of the committee in India after a gap of 18 years, he said.
Delegates from various countries including Sri Lanka, Pakistan, France, the UK, USA, Canada, Italy and South Africa, would participate in the deliberations, he said.
The team would also make field visits in select coastal villages in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for evaluation of the livelihood and environment of the habitats of the fisher people.
Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy would address the valedictory day programme of a two-day workshop, being held as part of the meeting, on July 15, Ilango, a former MLA said.
Delegates of the NFF would also form part of the participants in the deliberations, he said.
