The 36-year-old, who weighed 500 kg when she came to Mumbai last month, underwent a surgery at Saifee Hospital. A team of doctors performed a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy on Ahmed on March 7 to help her lose weight.
Bariatric surgeon Muffazal Lakdawala, who is treating Ahmed, said the weight loss till now has been mostly due to reduction in the water content in her body.
"Water content in her body has been reduced. She has lost 120 kg so far. Now, the challenging part is to bring down fats in her body and we are gradually upgrading her treatment as per the requirement," Lakdawala told PTI today.
Asked about the effect of so much weight loss on her body and muscles, he said, "We are well aware of impact on the body of a patient when a lot of weight is reduced in a short period of time."

"The treatment is progressing keeping all such aspects in mind. The hospital is also offering her physiotherapy because her bones and muscles have not developed sufficiently because of immobility," the doctor said.
"Physiotherapy and prescribed diet along with medication is the treatment she is getting. I am hopeful of development of her muscles and bones so that she could move after some days," the noted surgeon said.
