Fulminating at Joseph, Vadakkedath said what had happened at the Akademi was a "murder of culture."
"We have a Culture Minister who cannot make out between vowels and consonants," he said and alleged Joseph had often meddled in the affairs of the cultural institution to serve the narrow interest of "some others."
Action against Vadakkedath and a couple of others in the general council of the Akademi were taken following complaints that they had derided the world Malayalam conference organised by the Culture Department earlier this year.
According to official sources, the changes in the Akademi, headed by noted writer Perubadavam Sreedharan, were effected on the basis of a report submitted by Culture Secretary Sajan Peter who has probed the lapses in the conduct of the Malayalam meet held in October.
Eminent writer Akbar Kakkattil has been made the Vice-President of the Akademi in place of Vadakkedath.
