The air force personnel accidentally discovered the relic of the World War II while building a new runway, which was inaugurated today, for landing of large aircraft at the air force base station here.
A piece of slab having hand imprints on a concrete surface of those who had built the military airbase during 1942-44 was found, the official said, adding the relic has now been restored and displayed properly at the air force station.
The airfield unit was constructed during 1942-44 during the Second World War by the US Allied Forces as part of CBI (China-Burma-India) Campaign.
Later the airbase was activated during the 1971 war and two Fighter Squadrons (Sukhoi-7 & MiG-21) were deployed here for operations.
In between the two wars, the airbase was taken over by the National Airports Authority, But after 1986, the air force reclaimed it.
