Based in London, she will be in charge of Sotheby's worldwide selling strategy for the two related South Asian areas, working with our team of international experts and developing key relationships with Sotheby's Indian clients.
A veteran of the Indian art market, she joins Sotheby's after 14 years at Christie's where, since 2006, she has headed the London Modern and Contemporary Indian Art department.
"I am thrilled to be joining Sotheby's at such an exciting time for the market, with its profile at an all-time high and Indian artists increasingly recognised on the global stage," Mehta said.
According to Robin Woodhead, chairman of Sotheby's International, Mehta's impressive track record will be a boost to the rapidly growing market for modern and contemporary Indian art.
"With her vast experience, and close links with collectors in India, Asia and the US, she will be able to further consolidate Sotheby's presence in this important area of our business," Woodhead said. PTI
