Congress' Nandini Parvekar, a political novice and wife of the late Congress MLA Nilesh Parvekar, whose death in road accident necessitated the byeelection, bagged 62,509 votes while Madan Yerawar of BJP got 47,276 votes.
Eight other candidates in the fray lost their deposits.
Nilesh Parvekar had won from this seat in 2009, defeating Yerawar, a two-time MLA.
The by-poll took place on June 2 while the counting took place today.
Maharashtra Congress chief Manikrao Thakre noted in his speech that today was the birthday of Nilesh Parvekar, the late MLA, and termed Nandini's victory a befitting tribute to his memory.
