Armed with a Supreme Court order, the agency officials also raided two mining firms which doled out large donations to a trust run by Yeddyurappa's family in return for alleged undue favours shown to them during his chief ministership.
Police sources said the raids by joint teams from Bangalore and Hyderabad were conducted in 11 places, including the two residences in Bangalore, Shimoga, Yeddyurappa's home district and his assembly constituency Shikaripura.
The crackdown by the central agency came after it registered a case for offences under IPC including criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust besides under the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act and Prevention of Corruption Act.
CBI teams swooped down on residences and properties of Yeddyurappa, his two sons B Y Raghavendra, MP, B Y Vijendra, son-in-law Sohan Kumar, former minister S N Krishnaiah Shetty and Davalagiri Properties owned by Yeddyurappa's family in Bangalore and Shimoga.
The offices of Jindal Steel Works and sister concern South West Mining Company,which donated Rs 10 crore to Prerana Trust run by Yeddyurappa family in Shimoga also faced CBI action.
The sources said some residences of relatives of Yeddyurappa also came under the scanner in Mysore.

The CBI also questioned Udaykumar, another son-in-law of Yeddyurappa and his daughter Umadevi in Shimoga, they said.
During the raids that stretched till evening, CBI officials seized some documents relating to illegal mining.
Apprehending arrest as the raids were on, Yeddyurappa, Raghavendra, Vijendra and Sohan Kumar filed anticipatory bail applications in the designated CBI court which will hear the matter tomorrow.
Yeddyurappa described the raids as "an unforgettable day" in his political career and "one of the most painful days" of his life and said he would cooperate with CBI and come clean. (MORE)
