Yeddyurappa predicts early assembly polls in Karnataka

Speaking at the party's Slum Morcha Executive here, he urged party workers to gear up for the assembly elections, likely to be held in about six months from now.

Assembly elections are due in Gujarat by this year end.

He hit out at Congress for using slum dwellers as its vote bank and claimed the BJP government in Karnataka has implemented several programmes to improve their standard of living.

BJP National General Secretary H N Anantkumar alleged that Congress was responsible for growth of slums and said NDA had implemented a slew of development projects in slums.

Later speaking to reporters, Yeddyurappa, who has launched a banner of revolt against Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda after being sidelined over his attempts to regain the post, said there are no problems in the party and minor issues would be resolved

"We are like children of a mother. There are no problems in the party. Whatever minor issues are there, will be resolved. We will all work unitedly for the success of the party," he said.

The 70-year-old Lingayat strongman, who is entangled in a spate of corruption cases, has made repeated attempts to regain chief ministership but the BJP central leadership had made it clear that he has to come clean in the charges levelled against him for his reinstatement.

BJP President Nitin Gadkari, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, senior leader Arun Jaitley and others are attending the marriage reception of Yeddyurappa's grand daughter this evening.
