Thousands of people took out rallies here and different areas of Mizoram Wednesday demanding scraping of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) established in 1972.

The rallies were organised by the Young Mizo Association (YMA) president Vanlalruata said.

He claimed that the CADC was created by the Centre in 1972 without consulting the people of Mizoram and said the Council has become a safe haven for Bangladeshi infiltrators.

While the union government was alert in the event of intrusion from other border sectors, it seemed to have welcomed illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, especially Chakma Buddhists, he said.
