BSF is witnessing a healthy weight loss among its troops after Yoga exercises were recently introduced in their regimen, its Director General K K Sharma said today.
The Border Security Force (BSF) chief, on the eve of the 51st Raising Day of the paramilitary force, told journalists here that he believes that yoga and pranayam are the best forms of exercise and hence the regular physical training (PT) drills in the force were sometime ago replaced by these traditional exercises.
Explaining the benefits of yoga, he said in running and other exercises, only a limited number of body parts are impacted while the postures in this newly-adopted form of exercise in BSF leads to "squeezing and stretching" of many body parts, leading to an increase in the flow of blood.
"The increased flow of blood cleanses the body ... Even as vital organs are exercised. Hence, seeing the usefulness and importance of yoga and pranayam we are going for yoga instead of the regular PT drills. I am very happy to say that this change is being appreciated all around and the average weight is slightly coming down," he said.
"The actual impact of this change of exercise will be felt in six months' time," he added.
The BSF had recently got at least its 19,000 personnel trained under yoga guru Ramdev at his facility in Uttarakhand's Haridwar.
