Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna today advocated inclusion of yoga in school syllabus for overall personality development of children.
"The health benefits of Yoga are many. Yogic asanans don't just improve our physical health but also our mental well being. It should be made part of our school syllabus up to the secondary level to help children become physically and mentally strong enough to face the challenges of life," Bahuguna said inaugurating the International Yoga Week here.
Noting that yoga did not belong to a particular religion, he said it was a legacy of the entire mankind.
He said the event will be organised on a bigger scale next time.
Addressing the gathering, state Tourism Minister Amrita Rawat said yoga is part of India's ancient heritage and should be preserved for the benefit of the coming generations.
