"The decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP parliamentary board is a matter of pride for all sections of the society," Adityanath said in a statement.
He said that Naidu has had a long experience in public life and has ably discharged his duties both in the organisation and government.
He has made a remarkable contribution in the field of rural development and his selection for the coveted post amounts to extending respect to the rural population, Adityanath said.
Naidu, 68, was chosen at a BJP Parliamentary board meeting attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior party leaders in New Delhi today.
