The Uttar Pradesh BJP claimed today that after a record purchase of the wheat crop, the Yogi Adityanath government will set a new record for the purchase of paddy.
"The UP government has set a target of 50 lakh metric tonne for the purchase of paddy, so that farmers do not have to sell their produce at a low rate," UP BJP spokesperson Shalabh Mani Tripathi said in a statement.
So far the Adityanath government has spent Rs 67,000 crore on farmers in the form of wheat purchase, crop loan redemption and payment of dues to sugarcane farmers, he said.
"This figure will increase after paddy purchase. The government has issued instructions that within 72 hours of purchase of paddy from farmers, money must be credited to their bank accounts," Tripathi said.
Paddy purchase in 31 districts of western UP will begin from October 21 and will continue till January 31, 2018. In the 41 districts of eastern UP, paddy purchase will begin on November 1 and will continue till February 28, he said.
