Both the Houses of the state legislature on Tuesday lauded the efforts of ISRO scientists for the successful launch of Chandrayaan-2 and highlighted the strong Uttar Pradesh connect of the ambitious mission.

Moving a motion of thanks for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists in the legislative assembly, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath referred to the contribution of Chandrayaan-2 mission director Ritu Karidhal Srivastava, a resident of Lucknow, and IIT-Kanpur to India's second lunar mission.

The premier institute has developed a motion planning and mapping generation software that will help ISRO's rover in its movement and guide its route on the lunar surface.

The software has been developed by Prof Ashish Datta of the Mechanical Engineering Department and Prof KS Venkatesh of Electrical Engineering wing of IIT Kanpur.

Adityanath said the successful launch of Chandrayaan-2 has made the country proud.

"It was a historic moment and the scientists of the ISRO need to be congratulated for it," he said.

The legislative council also congratulated the ISRO team for the successful launch.

Political leaders praised the efforts of the scientists in ensuring India make a mark in the field of space science.

The ISRO on Tuesday said the Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft is in "good health" and moving in the "right direction".

India on Monday successfully launched the Chandrayaan-2 from its most powerful rocket with a plan to land the rover on September 7 in the unexplored lunar south pole, exactly a week after the liftoff was aborted due to a technical snag.
