Youth booked for raping minor girl

A youth has been booked for allegedly raping a minor girl following which she became pregnant and was forced to undergo an abortion, police said today.
The accused, identified as Lachhu Sargara (25), raped the minor tribal girl at Jeeran village in the district some months back. Her family members got to know about the offence, but the youth threatened them with dire consequences if they disclosed about it to anybody.
Lachhu later allegedly forced the girl to undergo an abortion with the help of a quack on July 10 following which the girl's condition became critical.
It was then that the police came to know that she had been raped.

Based on a complaint filed by the victim's family, a case was registered against the accused yesterday under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC while a search was launched to nab him, police added.
