A 27-year-old youth is camping atop the BSNL tower here with a country-made pistol demanding return of his estranged wife -- a woman police constable -- who has denied being married to him and filed a complaint against the youth for blackmailing her.
Kulvinder climbed the tower in Ram Bagh colony here around 11.30 AM yesterday and told the police over phone that he would jump or shoot himself if his estranged wife was not brought back to him.
By the time police arrived, a large crowd had gathered at the spot.
Kulvinder claimed that he had married a woman police constable at Arya Samaj Mandir at Dhampur on January 9, 2014, but she deserted him after staying together for a week.
The youth threatened to shoot himself with the pistol or jump to death if the woman was not "restored to him at once".
However, SHO Dhampur, Ajai Kumar Gautam said he has talked to the woman over phone and she told him that he was not Kulvinder's wife.

Gautam said that a case against Kulvinder has already been registered on the written complaint by the woman at Dhampur police station for allegedly blackmailing her.
ASP city, Kalpana Saxena, when contacted said the police was mulling calling the woman police constable to Bijnore to resolve the matter.
It is said that during the last six months Kulvinder had climbed on several towers with the same demand. He was still on the mobile tower when reports last came in and the police was trying to persuade him.
