Youth Cong demands implementation of 73rd Amendment in JK
Press Trust of India Jammu Youth Congress today held a protest march here demanding the implementation of the 73rd Amendment of the constitution to empower the Panchayat Raj system in Jammu and Kashmir
Led by IYC Secretary in-charge J&K affairs, Chetan Pratap Singh Chouhan, the activists of Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Youth Congress (JKPYC) assembled at PCC headquarters here and marched toward the Deputy Commissioner's office.
The activists forcibly entered the DC's office premises when stopped by the police and locked the main gate from inside and sat on a 'dharna' in front of the office.
Later, after an assurance by the DC that their view point would be forwarded to the government, the activists ended the sit-in.
Chouhan said that strengthening of Panchayati Raj System in the state is their aim and PYC will not rest until the Panchayats in the state are empowered as prescribed in the 73rd Amendment of the Constitution of India and would become an effective institution of service at the grass root level.
