The protesters, led by Indian Youth Congress (IYC) national president Amrinder Raja Warring, Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Satyadev Katare, MP Congress Chief Arun Yadav among others, staged a sit-in for over three hours at Roshanpura chowk and started marching towards CM's house to protest.
"Police resorted to cane-charge and lobbed tear-gas shells to bring situation under control after the protesters pelted stone at them," City South Superintendent of Police Anshuman Singh told PTI.
Police lobbed around 14 teargas shells and detained 58 protesters for allegedly indulging in violence and breaking the barricade. They were later released, Singh said.
Congress claimed that over a dozen workers received minor injuries in the incident.

Questioning the police action, MP Congress Minority Cell spokesman Syed Saud Hasan said that he was also wounded in the protest.
Claiming that over 5,000 Congressmen took part in the protest, Hasan alleged that the government tried its best to crush their agitation, though failed in doing so.
Hasan said ,"Come what may, we will continue the protest against Chouhan over the Vypam scam.
