Accusing the Narendra Modi-led government of working against the interest of farmers, Indian Youth Congress today launched a nationwide agitation to resist the Centre's "anti-farmer" policies.
"Ever since BJP government has assumed power there seems a deliberate attempt to harm the agriculture industry especially the small farmers and agriculture-based workers," alleged Shahnawaz Choudhary, President of Pradesh Youth Congress Jammu and Kashmir.
"Indian Youth Congress will not remain a silent spectator but will fight anti-farmer policies and put up a stiff resistance to such anti-farmer policies. Thus, Indian Youth Congress has decided to launch a nationwide Kissan Satyagraha from today," he said.
He alleged that the farmers were not getting fair price for their production.
"The benefits of drop in diesel prices are not reaching the domestic consumers most affected by which are small farmers and also there is a shortage of fertilisers and seeds," he said.
He accused the Centre of trying to snatch the land from farmers and tribals of the country under the garb of land reforms.
"The BJP government through this black land ordinance has made it possible and legal for the private players to snatch the farming land and earn profits. This indeed is a New Year gift of the BJP government to such profit-seeking players," he said.
