Releasing 19-year-old Ram Kishan on probation, Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhat said, "It was in a sudden quarrel which took place between two groups while playing cricket in a ground that the convict hit the deceased with a cricket bat on his neck, which proved to be fatal."
"From the evidence led by the prosecution in this case, it is evident that the convict did not commit the offence with premeditation," said the court, convicting Kishan for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Kishan is presently pursuing his diploma in Electrical Engineering from Pusa Polytechnic Institute here.
The prosecution case dated back to April 2011 when victim's father had lodged a complaint with the police that his son was badly thrashed by Kishan in a quarrel and was admitted to the Gandhi Nursing Home in West Delhi.
According to the prosecution, Kishan had hit the victim on his neck with a cricket bat due to which he died a few days later, leading to Kishan's arrest on April 18, 2011.
Observing that "convict has already spent 96 days in jail as undertrial prisoner before he was granted bail," the judge said adding that "Further imprisonment would seriously hamper the education of the convict and would be a great impediment in his future career."

It released Kishan on probation to watch his conduct.
"The pain and agony suffered by victim's parents cannot be undone, but their sufferings can be lessened to some extent by granting some compensation to them." said the judge empathising with the pain and sufferings of victim's parents, and ordered convict to pay Rs 30,000 as compensation to them.
