Youth, father booked for cancelling wedding over dowry demand

A Pune-based youth and his father have been booked for cancelling the former's marriage at the last minute when their alleged dowry demand was not fulfilled by the bride's family, police said today.
The marriage of Ashish Parvat was supposed to be solemnised with the daughter of Seoni's Barghat tehsil resident Ajay Bharti yesterday.
However, a day before the marriage, the groom's family allegedly demanded a huge dowry from the bride's father and threatened that they will not come from Pune to finalise the wedding rituals till their demands are not fulfilled, police said.
The bride's father refused to entertain the unjustified demands from the groom's family.

When the marriage party did not arrive for the wedding, Bharati yesterday informed police.
A case under Dowry Prohibition Act was registered against Ashish and his father Madhavrao Parvat, police said adding that further investigation was on in the matter.
