The third edition of an annual youth fest kicked off here today at the University of Delhi with the North-East as its central theme.
More than 3,000 students from 50 colleges are expected to take part in diverse cultural activities at 'Udaan Utsav', the organisers said.
Film director Madhur Bhandarkar and actor Manoj Joshi were the chief guests at the inauguration of the three-day event being held on the North campus.
"It is essential for the youth to connect with the culture and heritage of the country. Such fests should happen not only in Delhi, but (in the) entire nation so as to create a better cultural society," said Bhandarkar.
Students today needed more than expertise in academics, Joshi said, urging them to hone their creative talents.
Festival convenor Sumit Maluja said it would help people in Delhi get a glimpse of the "great diversity and richness" of the North-East.
The third edition of the festival will have sections such as street theatre, music, dance, film making, writing, poetry recitation, declamation, photography, poster making, painting and cartoon designing.
Some other themes are environment, water conservation, Indian culture and globalisation, role of soldiers and farmers in nation building and the role of the youth.
