The incident took place on Monday night when Jahangir was first beaten by a woman alleging that he snatched her golden chain, police said.
After this, he was beaten by some persons from the same locality where in he suffered serious injuries ,they said.
He was admitted to the district hospital but since his condition deteriorated, he was referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh but succumbed on the way, police said.
Yesterday, his relatives and the locals staged a protest on the Chilkana road demanding registration of a case.
As a mark of protest against the registration of case, traders observed a bandh today but later opened their shops in the evening, police said.
Extra police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order situation, they said.
