A 23-year-old youth, who was allegedly extorting money from locals by impersonating as a police constable, was arrested today in Farsh Bazar area of East Delhi.
According to the police, the youth, identified as Aashish Choudhary, came under the police scanner after one Mohd Ikrar, a scrap dealer, complained that one person wearing the uniform of a constable of Delhi Police, has been visiting the area and threatening and extorting money from general public on one pretext or the other.
"Choudhary also visited his shop and asked him about his source of income. He alleged the shopkeeper deals in stolen goods and threatened him to book him for purchasing stolen items and demanded Rs 10,000 from Mohd Ikrar", said a police official.
Ikrar paid him Rs 1,500 and promised him to pay another Rs 2,000 in the evening. The police then laid a trap and at around 6 PM, Choudhary was nabbed.
