A Delhi court has sentenced a youth to life imprisonment for killing his tenant whose wife was having illicit relationship with him.
However, the wife and another person, who were accused of conspiring with the convict to eliminate the victim, were acquitted for want of evidence by the court.
The court held that Lakhraj, a resident of Rithala village in north-west Delhi, took the extreme step as he was upset with the victim who used to beat his wife Manju.
"Three circumstances have been proved against him," Additional Sessions Judge Umed Singh Grewal said while referring to the motive of the crime and circumstantial evidence that he was last seen with the deceased.
Also, the clothes of deceased and the weapon used in the offence were found at the instance of Lakhraj, the judge said while pronouncing the punishment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on the convict.
However, the court acquitted the victim's wife noting that though there were evidence which pointed out that the woman was having illicit relationship with the convict, it was nowhere clear that she had entered into any plan or activity to kill her husband.

While acquitting co-accused Deepak, who was also residing as a tenant in the convict's house, the court held that only though he was last seen with the deceased, it was not enough to hold him guilty.
"One circumstance each is not sufficient to hold them guilty for committing murder. One circumstance each has been proved against Deepak and Manju. Hence, accused Manju and Deepak are acquitted of the charges levelled against them," the court said.
According to police, on June 17, 2010, the dead body of Dinesh was found at Rohini here.
