Tarun Kumar Dutta, a constable of the Jorasanko Police Station, was on duty in front of DC Central's office in central Kolkata when he was attacked by Mohammed Alim alias Mohammed Raja (26) at around 2.30 PM today, a senior Kolkata Police officer said.
Raja, a resident of Sodepur, was passing by after buying a knife from the nearby New Market, he said.
"It was when Dutta inquired about the knife, that Raja attacked the constable and stabbed him in his abdomen," the officer said adding, Raja, tried to flee the spot but was caught by locals and later arrested.
